The WPO, John Swana and Chris’ Jazz Cafe
Last night @olabaldych and I (with our friend Ula) braved the frigid weather to see the West Philadelphia Orchestra perform at Tritone on South Street. The bar was packed tight and grooving to the WPO’s own take on Eastern European folk music. The 12-piece brass band pounded through 3 sets of intense music incorporating jazz and rock influences. Yeah, I recognize that Mingus tune y’all!
I got to catch up with a bunch of musicians I haven’t seen in years. Most cats don’t know that I am living in Philly these days so it was cool to reconnect.
Tonight we will be checking out the @LuckyOldSouls show with John Swana - one of my teachers from the UArts days. And he’s playing the EVI… BAD!
Tomorrow I’ll back at Chris’ Jazz Cafe playing with the Charles Lane Quintet from 11 to 2. Come swing by if you’re in town. I’m the one with the trumpet.
Peace.
